Trick or Treat?

Halloween is just around the corner, bringing with it a scary and nefarious threat--and I’m not talking about those little munchkins knocking at our door.

On my last three appointments I inspected various damages: WIND, DISHWASHER OVERFLOW and BACKED UP A/C. These damages were legitimate claims, but the silent, lurking killer was SMOKE DAMAGE. Smoke damage is devious because homeowners often don’t recognize its presence. I presented and explained the damage to the home and the pollutants these clients were breathing.

It is common for homeowners to experience smoke issues this time of year as they start using their furnaces and boilers after months of not lighting them. Sometimes the oil tank isn’t filled all the way and condensation formed can contaminate the fuel, or critters can block the chimney with a nest or the heat exchanger may even crack! Fortunately these serious threats are covered, and homeowners deserve to be compensated for them. At the very least, it is critical to identify the source of the damage to preserve the health of you and your loved ones.

Smoke damage payout, however, will far exceed the other claims.
